Washington, D.C.- Congressman Akin (R-MO), a member of the House Science Energy Subcommittee, voted today for a measure to make America’s energy future more secure and to reduce dependence on foreign oil. The bill passed by a vote of 212-210.
“The recent disasters of Hurricane Katrina and the resultant peak in gas costs has underscored the need for a comprehensive energy policy to make Americas energy infrastructure more resilient and to reduce exposure of America’s economy to wild price fluctuations,” said Akin. “A sound energy policy also bolsters national security by reducing dependence on foreign oil.”
The Gasoline for America’s Security Act, H.R. 3893 increases refinery capacity, increases delivery infrastructure, promotes conservation and authorizes the creation of a Strategic Petroleum Reserve Expansion Fund, and promotes the development of Hydrogen fuel.
