Statement on President Bush’s Leadership in Katrina Aftermath

Washington, D.C.- Congressman Akin (R-MO), released the following statement regarding President Bush’s acceptance of responsibility for the effectiveness of the Federal response to Hurricane Katrina:

“President Bush’s leadership has been demonstrated time and again, and he is committed to determining what went right and what went wrong during the response to Hurricane Katrina,” Akin said.

“With the massive overhaul of national preparedness and the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, we as a nation are in a period of transition as we reconfigure our defenses in a post-9/11 world. Hurricane Katrina has given us the opportunity of reviewing and evaluating where we are strong and where we need to get stronger. I look forward to working with the Administration and my colleagues in Congress to ensure that the necessary revisions are made to the instant command system,” Akin concluded.
