Congressman Akin Applauds Historic Iraq Vote
Congressman Todd Akin, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, applauded the courage of the Iraqi people who defied terrorist threats by voting in yesterday's historic election.
"The tremendous success of yesterday's election is a testament to the courage of the Iraqi people, the bravery of U.S., Iraqi and other Coalition forces fighting an increasingly desperate insurgency and a strong vindication of President Bush's commitment to democracy in Iraq.
"As the President said in his Inaugural Address, the people of the world have
a desire to live in liberty. We saw that desire expressed
by the Iraqi people with unmistakable clarity in yesterday's
election. This is a major defeat for the enemies of freedom
in Iraq and around the world, and sends a message that despite
the best efforts of the terrorists, people throughout Iraq
are eager to govern themselves and live in liberty."
