Congressman Akin Applauds
Delivery of 100,000th JDAM
St. Charles, MO - Congressman
Todd Akin (R-MO), a member of the House Armed Services Committee,
applauds the 100,000th delivery of a Joint Direct Attack Munition
(JDAM) to the United States military. Congressman Akin is
joining a ceremony celebrating the 100,000th delivery at Boeing's
St. Charles Facility being held today.
JDAM is a family of munitions capable
of being guided to targets and range from 500 to 2,000 pound
bombs. The JDAM is often the weapon of choice in operations
in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"The added precision of smart munitions
not only enhances their effectiveness in striking the enemy,
which is produced at the Boeing Facility in St. Charles smart
weapon capability. And, significantly, JDAMS also help reduce
civilian casualties in military operations," said Congressman
Akin. "The workers at Boeing should be proud of the JDAM and
how it has added so much to the success of America's warfighters
in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"Approximately 3,000 JDAM kits are
being produced each month, an output that demonstrates the
strength of the JDAM program as well as the commitment of
Boeing and its employees to providing an outstanding product
essential to our nation's defense," Akin concluded.
