Akin Votes to Increase Intelligence Funding
Washington D.C. - Wednesday's House passage of a plan to provide federal intelligence activities with the largest authorization in history "is a major step toward greater security for all Americans," according to U.S. Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO), who supported the measure.
The increased funding will better equip the analytic and intelligence-gathering capability of the United States government, thereby increasing the effectiveness of Department of Homeland Security, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and CIA.
"America needs to know who our enemies are and what they plan to do. Improving our intelligence capacity is essential to ensuring the safety and well-being of all our citizens," said Akin, a member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Terrorism and Unconventional Threats. "I fully support the passage of this authorization, which includes historic increases in intelligence funding. The security of our country demands nothing less."
"In the 1990s, human intelligence gathering was seriously neglected. This bill reverses that trend. It increases our investment in human intelligence, improves analysis and strengthens the agencies language capabilities."
