Congressman Todd Akin Receives Third Consecutive "Taxpayers Friend Award"
Washington, D.C. - The National Taxpayer's Union (NTU) has released its annual report on U.S. Representatives and Senators showing that Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO) is a consistent vote for a lower burden on U.S. taxpayers. The NTU awarded Congressman Todd Akin with a third consecutive "Taxpayers Friend Award" for being a "highest performer" in Congress when it comes to fighting against increased taxes on Americans.
This year only 29 lawmakers earned the top honor of "Taxpayers Friend," which is down from 36 lawmakers last year. Congressman Akin is rated as14th in the 435-member House of Representatives and is the only Missouri legislator to receive the designation of an "A" rating this year.
Pete Sepp, Vice President for Communications, National Taxpayers Union said that "For the third year running Congressman Akin has proven his dedication to lower taxes, less wasteful spending, and more accountable government. He has truly earned the title 'Taxpayers Friend,' and with this title the gratitude of Missourians and fiscally conscious taxpayers across the nation."
"I am proud of my record of voting to reduce federal taxes, spending and debt," said Congressman Todd Akin. "I also commend the National Taxpayers Union for their work in helping Americans monitor the records of lawmakers and how they vote on issues that affect levels of federal spending."
The 2003 rating, along with a searchable rating database, are available online at www.ntu.org.
