Akin Applauds Appointment of
St. Louisan Arthur D. Wainwright as Chairman of
U.S. Commerce Department's Manufacturing Council
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Todd Akin applauded the appointment of Don Wainwright of St. Louis' Wainwright Industries to a senior advisory post by U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Donald L. Evans. Wainright was named chairman of the Commerce Department's Manufacturing Council, which will help ensure that manufacturers of all sizes have a voice in the ongoing implementation of the Administrations manufacturing initiative.
Akin, Chairman of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Workforce, Empowerment and Government Programs, noted that "The health of our manufacturing sector is vital to the continued growth of our recovering economy. I am pleased that such a competent and knowledgeable business leader as Don Wainright has been appointed as chairman of this important committee. As a former chairman of the National Association of Manufacturers, Don is well familiar with the key concerns of manufacturers nationwide.
"Don, whose own company won the prestigious Baldridge Award in 1994, knows what it takes to run a successful business in the real world. And as a fellow engineer, I am certain that Mr. Wainright will bring a high level of critical analysis to bear on issues important to manufacturers."
