Talent and Akin Announce Funding for
St. Anthony's Pediatric Center
Washington, DC- Senator Jim Talent (R-MO) and Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO) today announced the St. Anthony's Medical Center will receive $350,000 to build a much needed pediatric center to serve St. Anthony's primary service area and the outlying rural areas which the hospital serves.
St. Anthony's Medical Center is partnering with SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital to create a Pediatric Center of Excellence on St. Anthony's campus. The Pediatric Center of Excellence will enable St. Anthony's and Cardinal Glennon Hospitals to provide needed pediatric care for the underserved families in rural southeast Missouri.
"St. Anthony's is one of the busiest emergency rooms in Missouri and sees over 20,000 children every year without having a pediatric center," said Congressman Akin. "This funding will help in the creation of a Pediatric Center to help take care of those residing in this underserved area."
"I was pleased to support this funding for St. Anthony's with Congressman Akin," said Sen. Talent, a member of the Senate's Rural Health Care Caucus. "What it will do is create a network that expands health care access for people and extends pediatric care services to rural Missourians."
The funding which was requested by both Senator Talent and Congressman Akin is part of the FY 2004 Omnibus which was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives in December and was passed by the U.S. Senate today.
