Congressman Todd Akin's Statement on Anniversary of September 11th Terror Attacks

"On this, the anniversary of the most deadly and destructive terrorist attack ever on our country's soil, Americans everywhere are reminded of the grave loss of life that was suffered by so many and of the ongoing pain their loved ones still experience. We are also mindful of the heroism of ordinary men and women as well as the courage and dedication of first responders, many of whom lost their lives saving others.

"Along with the remembrance of those lost, it is time for reflection upon the deadly effects of leaving unchallenged the enemies of freedom, civilization and America. The attacks of September 11 were egregious crimes meant to kill as many innocent Americans as possible and to further a philosophy of hatred that calls for the destruction of our nation.

"Two years ago we knew that fight would be long and difficult. America continues in its resolve to defeat those that promise to destroy us and continues to deprive terrorists of safe havens. That battle took us to Afghanistan and has now taken us to Iraq. The brave men and women of our armed services are carrying out that mission with great skill and dedication. They deserve the respect of every American that values the cause of freedom. With God's help, this battle they, and we, will win."
