Congressman Akin Welcomes Fleet of Alternative Fuel Vehicles to St. Louis May 9
Akin to host May 12 visit of Assistant Energy Secretary to St. Louis
St. Louis, Mo.- “Drive to Survive” stops at St. Louis’ Union Station with fleet of alternative-fueled and hybrid vehicles to “promote renewable energies, emphasizing a decrease in our dependence on foreign oil and working to ‘Drive Hydrogen Home’”. The caravan’s stop in St. Louis is part of a two week educational tour which will culminate in Washington DC on May 14.
Although Congressional business prevents Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO) from attending the event at Union Station, Congressman Akin supports their efforts to raise public awareness of the need for alternative fuels and will be sending a representative to the event.
“As a member of the House Science Committee and a vocal supporter of the President’s Hydrogen Fuel initiative, I wholeheartedly support research into alternative sources of fuel which will decrease our dependence on foreign oil,” said Akin. “Hydrogen fuel cell technology is a promising and exciting field of research, one in which the world class research facilities in the St. Louis region can play a pivotal role. That is one reason why I am very excited to announce my office will be hosting a visit by Assistant Secretary, David Garman to St. Louis May 12 to discuss the President’s Hydrogen Fuel Initiative.”
David Garman was nominated by President George Bush to serve as Assistant Secretary, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Department of Energy and is responsible for advancing President Bush’s Hydrogen Fuel Initiative. He will visit St. Louis and meet with Congressman Akin’s Hydrogen Fuel Advisory Board and several institutions to be announced on May 12.
