Congressman Akin Receives Second Consecutive “Taxpayers Friend Award”
Washington, D.C. - Wednesday the National Taxpayer’s Union (NTU) released its annual report on U.S. Representatives and Senators. The organization rates members of Congress on votes that significantly affect taxes, spending, debt and regulatory burdens on consumers and taxpayers.
Representative Akin (R-MO) was one of 36 members of Congress to receive an “A” rating and thus be a recipient of the NTU “Taxpayers Friend Award.”
“Representative Akin’s pro-taxpayer score was one of the best in the entire house,” said John Berthoud, NTU’s president. “By consistently voting to reduce federal spending, taxes, and debt, Representative Akin has truly earned the title, ‘Taxpayers Friend.’”
“If every member of Congress had voted as responsibly as Representative Akin did in 2002, Americans could enjoy much lower taxes and less waste in government,” stated Berthoud. “While many Members of Congress talk about reducing the size of government, Representative Akin backed those words with votes. This Award proves that he is a consistent and effective ally in our battle for fiscal responsibility to Washington.”
The 2002 Rating, along with a searchable Rating database from the years 1992-2002, are both available online at www.ntu.org. Congressman Akin’s rating was the 18th highest in the entire House of Representatives. Last year, both Congressman Akin and Senator Bond received an “A” rating from the NTU.
