Subcommittees will focus on counter-terrorism, special operations and acquisition programs including Navy and Marine Corps aviation
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Todd Akin has been named to two subcommittees of the powerful House Armed Services Committee (HASC) that will have a direct bearing on national security and the St. Louis region.
Akin was appointed to the subcommittees on Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities and Tactical Air and Land Forces.
“These assignments provide me with a strong voice on our preparedness for possible terrorist attacks and on aviation programs critical to our country’s security and the Missouri aerospace industry,” Akin said. “I am honored to be able to serve on these essential subcommittees at such a critical time in America’s history.”
HASC Chairman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) said that “Congressman Akin has served as a valuable member of the House Armed Services Committee and he brings excellent background and knowledge to these important assignments.”
The Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities is responsible for Department of Defense counter proliferation and counter-terrorism programs and initiatives. It is also responsible for Special Operations Forces, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, information technology programs, force protection policy and oversight and related intelligence support.
The Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee is responsible for most Army and Air Force acquisition programs, as well as all Navy and Marine Corps aviation programs.
Two weeks ago, Akin was named Chairman of the House Small Business Subcommittee on the Workforce, which has broad oversight authority concerning federal government business programs, including the Small Business Administration.
