Akin Seeks Military Academy Applicants

St. Louis, Mo.- Congressman Todd Akin is now accepting applications from individuals who are seeking a nomination to one of the U.S. Service Academies for the classes which matriculate in the Summer of 2003.

To be eligible for nomination and eventual appointment by Akin, applicants must be American citizens, at least 17 and not yet 23 years old on July 1, 2003, not married, have no legal obligation to support dependents and be legal residents of the Second Congressional District of Missouri.

After reviewing application packets and conducting interviews, Akin will nominate up to ten highly qualified applicants to each of the academies. These include the U.S. Military, Naval, Air Force, and Merchant Marine Academies.

Individuals can request an application packet by writing to Congressman Todd Akin, Attn: Academies, 1023 Executive Parkway, Suite 18, St. Louis, MO 63141, or via email at rep.akin@mail.house.gov.

When writing, applicants should include their full name, gender, legal address (with city and zip), phone number, e-mail address, date of birth, high school name, high school graduation year and academy preference(s).

Applicants and their parents also are encouraged to attend the regional “All Academies Informational Meeting” to obtain more information on the nomination and appointment process. Sponsored by academy liaison officers from the greater St. Louis area, this annual event will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2002, 2 - 4 p.m., at the Edward Jones National Headquarters, northeast corner of I-270 at Manchester Road, 12555 Manchester Road, St. Louis, MO, 63131.

Topics will include the nomination and appointment process, presentations by academy representatives on applications and admissions, and frequently asked questions on academy life and academics. A representative from each academy will be present. Those interested in participating in this event should call the All Academies Response Line, (314) 515-1117, with their name, high school name, class year, and the number of people (including parents) from their family who will attend.
