Akin to Announce $3.9 Million in Funding for I-44 Improvements at Bowles Avenue
Project to improve safety and enhance economic development
St. Louis, Mo.- Congressman Todd Akin will announce the award of $3,886,428 by the Federal Highway Administration for improving I-44 at Bowles Avenue. The announcement will be made at a press conference to be held on the closed bridge over I-44 at the Maritz Performance Improvement Company Building, 1400 S. Highway Dr., on Monday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. The funds were appropriated in the FY 2002-Transportation Appropriations Bill. Tom Tener of Maritz, Fenton Mayor Dennis Hancock, Nancy Gray of the Fenton Chamber of Commerce, MoDOT officials and other community and business leaders will join Akin on Monday to announce the funding.
The money will be used to fund the first phase of a three-year appropriation project to improve safety, help traffic flow and enhance economic development.
The project will improve access to and from I-44 immediately west of the Meramec River, add new access ramps near the Daimler-Chrysler plant and improve traffic flow at Bowles and I-44.
