Akin Receives “Taxpayer’s Friend Award”
Bond and Akin both receive an “A” rating.
Washington, D.C.- Today, the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) released its annual report on U.S. Representatives and Senators. The organization rates members of Congress on votes that significantly affect taxes, spending, debt and regulatory burdens on consumers and taxpayers.
Akin received the Taxpayer Friend Award for 2001. Congressman Akin and Senator Bond were the only members of the Missouri Congressional Delegation to receive an "A" rating.
According to the organization, “NTU believes a score qualifying for a grade of ‘A’ indicates that the Member is one of the strongest supporters of responsible tax and spending policies.” Those members receiving an “A” rating receive the NTU “Taxpayer’s Friend Award”.
“I am thankful for being recognized as a good friend to taxpayers,” stated Akin. “There is no better way to put the economy in high gear than by controlling government spending.”
