Statement by Congressman Todd Akin on State of the Union Address
Economic recovery and war on terrorism are linchpins in plan for national security
Washington, DC- The following is a statement issued by Congressman Todd Akin applauding the President’s call to strengthen our military, bolster homeland security and stimulate the economy:
“I applaud the President’s commitment to national security and economic recovery. The war on terrorism and the creation of jobs are both vital to long-term prosperity.
“The President has correctly reminded us that the war on terrorism is far from over and that we must redouble our efforts. Although the war in Afghanistan has toppled the Taliban and severely injured al-Qaida, we must continue our vigilance and continue to eliminate the ability of terrorists to attack and kill Americans at home and abroad.
“I support the President’s proposal for substantial increases in defense spending and homeland security.
“Economic recovery is also necessary for real security and I applaud the President’s commitment to stimulating the economy. The President’s proposal for an economic stimulus package, a sound energy policy and making tax cuts permanent are important components in creating jobs and promoting economic recovery.”
