House Approves 1.7 Million for Construction of the L-15 Levee Project in N. St. Charles County
Congressman Akin secured an additional $700,000 for FY 2002

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the 2002 Energy and Water Development Appropriations Conference Report. The bill included $1.7 million for the L-15 levee project in St. Charles. The Administration originally requested $1 million for the project in this year’s Energy and Water Conference Report, but Congressman Akin helped secure an additional $700,000 in funding to bring the project up to full funding-capability for fiscal year 2002.

When completed the levee will protect 30,000 acres of some of the Midwest’s most fertile and productive farmland. It will also help reduce flooding in Northern St. Charles City and County and Missouri’s historic Katy Trail.

“I am very pleased to see the full funding of this critical project in such a tight budget year,” said Akin. “The hardworking people of St. Charles County deserve an adequate level of flood protection.”
