Statement by Congressman Todd Akin Regarding Passage of the Resolution Authorizing the Use of Force Against Terrorism
On Friday, September 14, the House of Representatives passed a resolution authorizing the use of military force in retaliating against those responsible for the terror attacks on September 11, 2001. The joint resolution authorized “the president to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on Sept. 11, 2011, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.”
Congressman Todd Akin issued the following statement regarding the resolution.
“I fully support the resolution to authorize the use of armed forces against those responsible for the cowardly terrorist attacks upon our nation on September 11, 2001.
“It is not only the cause of justice, but also a sense of duty and responsibility which demands that we defeat this great evil that threatens our nation and all of civilization.
“The battle will be protracted and require ongoing commitment and steady resolve.
“I anticipate hardship ahead, but America will take the battle to our enemies, knowing the unacceptable consequence of allowing them to bring it to us.”
