Congress Passes $40 Billion Supplemental Budget in Response to Terror Attacks
(Washington, D.C.) – In response to Tuesday’s terror attacks, the U.S. House has passed a supplemental budget with $40 billion in emergency funding to respond to the tragic terror attacks in New York and Virginia.
“The Congress stands united in responding to these cowardly attacks,” said Congressman Todd Akin. “We are of complete resolve in standing behind the administration in responding to the heinous attack against democracy and civilization itself.”
“These emergency funds will help provide for both humanitarian aid and a much needed ramping up of our military and security forces as we begin a new war against terrorism,” said Akin.
The supplemental appropriation provides:
$10 billion immediately for five specific purposes:
1. providing federal, state and local preparedness for mitigating and responding to the attacks; 2. providing support to counter, investigate or prosecute domestic or international terrorism; 3. providing increased transit security; 4. repairing public facilities and transit systems damaged by the explosions; and 5. supporting national security.
An additional $10 billion to be made available once the President notifies Congress how the funds will be spent.
An additional $20 billion of the $40 billion subject to further direction by Congress
