House Passes Budget Resolution
Rep. Akin votes for a balanced budget that reduces taxes and protects Social Security
Washington – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass a budget proposal for the fiscal year 2002.
“The passage of this budget is a tremendous victory for the average American taxpayer and for Republicans who fought hard for tax relief,” stated Congressman Todd Akin. “The budget is balanced. It pays off the national debt, and protects Social Security and Medicaid. It says ‘yes’ to tax relief and responsible spending, while saying ‘no’ to irresponsible growth in federal government.”
The budget will:
Provide the largest bipartisan tax cut in decades -- $1.35 trillion;
Include a $100 billion economic stimulus in tax relief for 2001;
Moderate government spending, while funding America’s priorities like education reform, Social Security protection;
Historically pay down our national debt- over $2 trillion in 10 years.
