Your Local Red Cross – Neighbor Helping Neighbor

The American Red Cross is in your community 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Charter Oak Chapter responded to nearly 225 local disasters last year, an average
of four to five incidents each week. For the same period, the Chapter assisted more than
1,900 people with their immediate disaster-related needs for shelter, food, clothing,
replacing medical prescriptions, security deposits and first month's rent.  The Chapter
committed more than $450,000 to helping people in our community begin their own
recovery after a disaster.

Your local Red Cross is also here to help you better prepare for emergencies, through
training and education programs in first aid, CPR, Babysitters Training, home safety
education and a host of other courses and presentations. Last year, we taught more
than 70,000 Connecticut residents to be safer and better prepared in their homes,
workplaces, houses of worship and communities.

How to Support U.S. Armed Forces
Thousands of Americans are asking what they can do to show their support for military
servicemembers, especially those serving overseas in this time of war. Due to
security concerns and transportation constraints, the American Red Cross, as well as
the Department of Defense, cannot accept items to be mailed to "Any Servicemember,"
but there are ways you can help. Click here for more details.

Our Mission
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided
by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red
Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help  people prevent,
prepare for, and respond to emergencies. The American Red Cross is not a government
agency. We rely on the generous support of the American people.
