Design Reference Resource Center (DRRC)

Taft Breaks Ground on New Section of U.S. 24 The new 2.2-mile section of U.S. Route 24 in Defiance County is the first of the Fort to Port projects, which will upgrade U.S. 24 to a four-lane highway from Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Toledo. Click here for more.

ODOT Outlook Inflation's Effects on ODOT's Program.  After nearly five years of stable and competitive construction costs, ODOT is rapidly experiencing significant increases in basic commodity prices for items such as aggregate, steel, cement and asphalt. ODOT: ‘Don’t Trash Ohio’ Each year, ODOT is forced to pull skilled workers off highway repairs to clean other people’s trash. In commemoration of Earth Day on April 22, ODOT is announcing its new ‘Don’t Trash Ohio’ slogan to spread the word that litter is everyone’s responsibility. For more, click here.

AASHTO Research Advisory Committee Annual Meeting July 10-13, 2006 in Columbus, Ohio. The RAC annual meeting provides an opportunity for the committee to conduct its annual business and to network with others interested in transportation research. Drivers Share Responsibility for Work Zone Safety  (ODOT) participates in Work Zone Safety Awareness Week each year in order to save lives and prevent injuries in work zones. The theme for the 2006 campaign is Working at the Speed of Night. Many states, including Ohio, are now completing construction work at night in order to reduce congestion and inconvenience fewer motorists. Of Ohio’s 45 interstate improvement projects and five mega projects for 2006, all include at least a portion of night work. For more details, click here.

ODOT Announces 2006  Construction Program ODOT kicks off another record-breaking construction program worth about $1.4 billion. The 2006 program is up from $1.3 billion in 2005 and has been steadily growing since 2003. For the third year in a row, the department’s focus will be to move forward with Gov. Project Information & Transportation Studies of Interest

Akron Central Interchange Project Information on the proposed upgrades to the Interstates 76 & 77 Central Interchange and the near "West Leg" in Akron. A joint effort between ODOT, the city of Akron and the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study.

Akron Central Interchange Project

The Brent Spence Bridge and its approaches are key elements of the nation’s Interstate Highway System. This facility, carrying both I-75 and I-71 traffic through the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area, has significant safety and capacity problems and is under study for improvement.  I-75 Mill Creek Expressway  This study, in the Cincinnati/St. Bernard/ Elmwood Place area, aims to improve traffic flow, enhance safety and minimize impacts to adjacent properties along I-75 from the Paddock Road interchange on the north and the Western Hills Viaduct interchange on the south.

US 224 Corridor Study  In an effort to address congestion and safety concerns in the Canfield and Boardman Townships area, ODOT and the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments have undertaken a joint project to study the U.S. Route 224 corridor between SR 11 and I-680. Thru the Valley Project The Thru the Valley project involves the widening and reconstruction of I-75 from I-275 (on the north) to Paddock Road (on the south) in Hamilton County, Southwest Ohio.

The Northeast Expressway Transformation (NExT) on the I-270/State Route 161/Sunbury Road corridor is the next big project for central Ohio. Click here for more details on this 3½ year project.

U.S. 30 Informational Web Site Information about upgrading U.S. 30 from a two-lane to a four-lane divided highway from Hancock County in northwest Ohio to State Route 11 east of Lisbon in northeast Ohio. Visit: www.us30.org

Far East Freeway Study The Ohio Department of Transportation has initiated a year-long study to find solutions that reduce congestion and accidents on Interstate 70 between Interstate 270 and State Route 256. Click here for more on this study.

I-270 Columbus North Central Outerbelt Study
A 6-month study to seek solutions to the problems of congestion and accidents at the interchanges of State Route 315, U.S. Route 23, and Interstate 71, click here for more on this study.

Cleveland Innerbelt Study
The purpose of this study is to develop a strategy for the intelligent renewal of the transportation infrastructure within the Innerbelt Corridor in downtown Cleveland. I-70/I-71 Columbus South Innerbelt Corridor Study ODOT has begun efforts on an 18-month study to seek solutions to the problems of congestion, traffic delays and safety hazards on the I-70/I-71 split in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Toledo I-75/I-475 Interchange, Improving your Ride This Study's Mission: "To facilitate a process by which interested groups and individuals in the Toledo Metropolitan Area will work with the project team to develop a preferred alternative for improving the I-75/I-475 systems interchange that can be approved and funded".
