WU ANNOUNCES FEDERAL GRANT FOR
RAINIER LITTLE LEAGUE FIELD

Washington, DC -- Today Congressman David Wu announced the City of Rainier has been awarded a federal grant totaling $111,970 for the development of a new little league baseball field.

"Together, this federal grant and local funds will bring Rainier little league participants and their fans a home field they can be proud of," stated Congressman Wu.

The baseball field will be developed at Rainier's Riverfront Park. Funds will support the construction of outfield fencing, backstop, team dugouts, spectator seating and also landscaping and irrigation.

Chad Olsen, Rainier's city administrator, was pleased to hear the good news. "We are very grateful for this grant from the National Park Service and are looking forward to the new and exciting addition to our city park."

The project is expected to cost approximately $226,000. The federal funds will supplement an $81,970 commitment from the Rainier Economic Development Council and $30,000 from the Rainier Little League Association. Donations will be sought for the remaining amount of approximately $2,000.

The federal grant is funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior's National Park Service, under the Land and Water Conservation Fund. This is the third federal grant awarded to the City of Rainier for this park.
