CONGRESSMAN WU PRAISES NASA'S RETURN TO FLIGHT

Washington, DC-- Congressman David Wu joined Americans across the country today in applauding NASA as the space shuttle Discovery successfully took flight. This was the first launch since the tragedy of NASA's space shuttle Columbia on February 1, 2003. The Discovery crew will be testing new safety procedures and delivering supplies to the International Space Station.

"My sincere congratulations to NASA for its successful return to flight," stated Congressman Wu. "The importance of NASA's mission to our nation cannot be overestimated. NASA has taken our dreams and made them real."

Congressman Wu serves as a member of the House Science Committee and its Space Subcommittee which has jurisdiction over the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. In addition to working with his committee colleagues to ensure NASA has the resources it needs to fulfill its mission, Congressman Wu works to promote the importance of science education for our youth. Each year, Congressman Wu, along with a NASA astronaut, participates in the awarding of four space camp scholarships for Oregon students as a way to help young people ignite their imagination and explore the fundamental math and science education needed to achieve great things.
