CONGRESSMAN DAVID WU ANNOUNCES $1.667 MILLION FOR TUALATIN REFUGE

Wu successfully secured federal dollars for Tualatin River Refuge educational and visitor facilities

(Portland, OR)  --  Today Congressman David Wu announced the securing of the $1.67 million for the construction of an environmental education shelter and visitor facilities for the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. Sherwood Mayor Mark Cottle, and Friends of the Refuge President Joan Patterson joined Congressman Wu at the Tualatin Wildlife Refuge.

"Today we are able to move one step closer to making this refuge accessible to our community, said Congressman David Wu. "To date this resource has been inaccessible to many due to a lack of visitor facilities. This funding will help ensure that the public can experience the beauty, wonder and educational opportunities of the refuge."

The facilities will provide the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with the tools to deliver high quality wildlife oriented recreational, interpretative, and educational activities. These activities were designated as high priority public uses for national wildlife refuges by Congress in the 1997 Refuge Improvement Act.

"Congressman Wu has been a true champion for the Tualatin River Wildlife Refuge," said Joan Patterson. "His hard work on this project shows his commitment to our natural legacy and education."
