CONGRESSMAN DAVID WU SECURES FINAL INSTALLMENT OF FUNDS FOR THE EAST ASTORIA BOAT BASIN

Washington, DC -- Today Congressman David Wu succeeded in securing $1.2 million to complete the Port of Astoria's ongoing rehabilitation of the East Mooring Basin. The provision is included the Fiscal Year '05 Energy and Water appropriations bill, which passed the House of Representatives today.

"The rehabilitation of the East Mooring Basin is vital for Astoria to maintain its important commercial fishing industry," said Congressman David Wu. "This rehabilitation is also important to the small port dependent businesses, to provide them with a safe and secure area to operate their businesses."

Congressman David Wu has previously secured $15 million for this project. The East Mooring Basin provides moorage for a large portion of commercial fishing vessels home ported in Astoria, Oregon on the lower Columbia River. Built in 1950, the breakwater has shown significant deterioration in many areas. Repair and reconstruction efforts began in 1998 and, with the final installment of necessary funds, should be completed by early 2006.

Congressman Wu will be in Astoria on Wednesday June 30 and will join Port of Astoria officials and commissioners to formally announce the completion of funds for the East Mooring Basin.
