WU STATEMENT ON SECRETARY MINETA'S RESIGNATION

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congressman David Wu released the statement below following Secretary Norman Mineta's decision to resign from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

"Secretary Mineta has made history throughout his distinguished service to our country.

"Overcoming internment during World War II, Secretary Mineta chose a life of public service, a career that has paved the way for other Asian Americans to participate more deeply in our democracy. He is a former member of Congress, founder of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and is the first Asian American to serve as a Cabinet secretary.

"Secretary Mineta should be recognized and celebrated for these inspiring contributions to the Asian American community and our country. His contributions have touched all of our lives and I am honored to have had the opportunity to know him and work with him."
