Congressman Wu Addresses Opening of Yamhill County Medical Center

Newberg, Ore - Today, Congressman David Wu addressed a dedication ceremony for the newly constructed Providence Newberg Medical Center.

Providence Health System in Oregon, ranked as the second most integrated health care system in the nation, offers a comprehensive array of health and education services through its seven hospitals, medical clinics, health plans, long-term care facilities and home health services. With nearly 14,000 employees, Providence is the state’s second-largest private employer.

Below is a copy of the Congressman's remarks:

Thank you Larry, and thank you all for being here today.

This new medical center we stand in front of today not only represents the commitment of Providence to providing access to health care to communities across Oregon, but also of the commitment Oregonians have to keeping their great state healthy for generations to come.

You may witness these commitments in this building by not only the health care that will be provided within its walls, but also this building has been built to strict environmentally friendly standards.

Some of Oregon’s best and brightest will work here – as physicians, nurses, assistants, technicians and executives. Their commitment to the health of the communities served by this is a wonderful thing and should inspire us.

I’m also grateful on behalf of the people who will find the health care they need here. I know that Providence has made a special commitment to the poor and vulnerable in our communities, and I appreciate the work they do for all they serve. I’m committed to improving access to health care for all Oregonians and all Americans, and the good work being done here at Providence helps make that possible.

Know also that this hospital is also breaking new ground in many ways. The project is registered for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification through the U.S. Green Building Council, which is extremely rare for hospitals. From its specially treated windows and its site location to best utilize In fact, this medical center is the first such medical center on the West Coast.

Providence Newberg is demonstrating that a medical center can incorporate the most advanced technology and forward-thinking patient care design along with energy-efficient, environmentally sound construction.

Thank you for inviting me to participate, and please know that I truly appreciate your good work.
