CONGRESSMAN WU FIGHTS FOR COMMON SENSE TAX FAIRNESS FOR WORKING AMERICANS

Washington, DC -- Today Congressman David Wu continued his fight for common sense tax fairness for working Americans by voting to make the 10% tax bracket extension permanent (H.R. 4275). Currently the 10% tax bracket applies to the first $7,000 for individuals and $14,000 for married couples. Without today's legislation those levels would drop to $6,000 for individuals and $12,000 for married couples in 2005. Further, without this action, the recently created 10% tax bracket would be completely repealed in 2011.

"My vote today is about common sense tax fairness for working Americans," said Congressman David Wu. "This tax cut provides the greatest benefit for low and middle-income families."

Congressman Wu's vote today is a continuation of his efforts to help fight for common sense tax fairness for working families and small businesses. In recent weeks Congressman Wu has voted for H.R. 4181 making permanent the "marriage penalty" relief provided in the 2001 and 2003 tax laws and for H.R. 4227 increasing the alternative minimum tax income exemption for 2005. And he voted for H.R. 5203, which makes permanent the tax incentive provisions of education savings accounts.

H.R. 4275 will now go to the Senate for further consideration.
