WU OBJECTS TO ADMINISTRATION'S ROADLESS RULE CHANGE

Washington, DC --  Today the Bush Administration announced the administrative repeal of the United States Forest Service's Roadless Area Conservation Rule that protects the nation's most pristine public forests.  In response, Congressman David Wu has released the statement below:

"Yet again, I am disappointed in the President's failure to protect our natural environment.  The President pushed the repeal of the Roadless Area Conservation Rule through administrative rulemaking rather than through Congressional debate because he knows the public is not behind him.

"The President's actions today will adversely affect over 58 million acres of the nation's most pristine public forests, including 1.9 million acres of roadless wild forests in Oregon.  Areas of Mount Hood, the Columbia Gorge and the McKenzie River Basin will suffer.

"On behalf of Oregon and future generations, I join my Congressional colleagues in fighting against this attack on our natural environment. We will work to bring the National Forest Roadless Area Conservation Act of 2005 to the House floor for a full and fair debate"
