CONGRESSMAN WU ANNOUNCES 2006 CONGRESSIONAL ART CONTEST WINNER
 
Brenna Gordon of Wilson High School will have her artwork
displayed at the U.S. Capitol
 
Washington, DC -- Congressman David Wu announced today that Brenna Gordon, a senior at Wilson High School, is the winner of the 25th Annual Congressional Art Competition for the First Congressional District of Oregon.  
 
As the winner, Ms. Gordon is eligible for a $1,000 scholarship to the Art Institute of Portland, as well as an invitation to the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the U.S. Capitol, where her artwork will be displayed for one year.  Ms. Gordon also receives three round-trip airline tickets, courtesy of Southwest Airlines, to Washington, DC to attend the June 28th ceremony. 
 
The local awards ceremony will be held today, as part of the First Thursday events at the Art Institute of Portland.  Ms. Gordon will be joined by her family and her artwork entitled, In Flight, will be on display. The ceremony is schedule begin at 5:30pm.
 
The Art Institute will also display the artwork of runners-up Alexandra deJong Gens, a senior at St. Mary's Academy, and Jessica Rhee, a senior at Beaverton High School.  Ms. Gens and Ms. Rhee will also be in attendance at the awards ceremony tonight.
 
The Congressional Art Competition was first launched in 1982. Since then, thousands of contests have been conducted around the country, involving more than 650,000 high school students. Each member of Congress sponsors a local art competition in their Congressional District and selects one winning entry. The competition provides students a unique opportunity to showcase their artistic talent at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.
