CONGRESSMAN DAVID WU HOSTS TSUNAMI
PREPAREDNESS FORUM

Seaside, OR -- Today Congressman David Wu hosted a Congressional Science Committee Tsunami Preparedness Forum in Seaside, Oregon. The forum brought together representatives from the fields of science, emergency preparedness, federal, state and local governments and coastal community residents.

"The images of the recent tsunami in southeast Asia showed only a small portion of the suffering and devastation that occurred," said Congressman David Wu." Today's forum helped provide the public information of what to do in the event of a tsunami, which is vital to saving lives."

The forum provided the public with the opportunity to ask questions and receive the most up to date information on tsunami preparedness. Congressman Wu is the ranking member of the Environment, Technology and Standards Science Subcommittee. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which handles all activities related to weather, weather services and climate, is included in the subcommittee's jurisdiction.

Forum participants included:

Jay Wilson, Coordinator of Earthquake and Tsunami Programs, Plans and Training Section, Oregon Emergency Management
