CONGRESSMAN DAVID WU HONORS OREGON
PARENTS FOR INVOLVEMENT IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

(Portland, OR)  --  Congressman David Wu honored parents who have made outstanding contributions to Oregon's public schools before a student audience at Robert Gray Middle School in Portland today.  Wu, joined by Portland Public Schools Superintendent Jim Scherzinger and Oregon PTA President Diana Oberbarnscheidt, presented two dedicated parents with American flags that were flown above the United States Capitol.

"During our school funding challenge some of the biggest heroes have been Oregon parents who have sacrificed their time and energy to improve our public schools," said Congressman David Wu.  "There is no better way to support our nation than to support our public schools."

With continued concern about school funding throughout Oregon, Wu held the ceremony today to recognize the hard work and dedication of many Oregon parents and to encourage more parents to get involved in Oregon's public schools.  Today is the PTA Founders' Day, the 107th Anniversary of the founding of the PTA.

Congressman Wu took time to encourage students to work hard in school and to recognize Oregon's teachers for their courageous work.  Wu also vowed to fight in Congress for more resources for Oregon's public schools.

In addition to Superintendent Scherzinger and PTA President Oberbarnscheidt, joining Congressman Wu at Robert Gray Middle School today were principal Willie Poinsette and Oregon public school parents Otto Schell and Sharon Meigh-Chang.
