CONGRESSMAN WU ANNOUNCES FEDERAL GRANT FOR THE PORT OF ASTORIA

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today Congressman David Wu announced the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the Port of Astoria with a $280,535 grant for construction at the Astoria Regional Airport. The funding is provided under the Federal Aviation Administration.

"I'm pleased to see the federal government assist the region's economic development in this real way," stated Congressman Wu.

To address the current demand for based aircraft, the Port of Astoria needs to build additional hangers at the Astoria Regional Airport. The federal dollars will allow the Port to make the necessary improvements to the site and add taxilanes for access to the new hanger area. Currently, eighteen people are on the waiting list for based aircraft at the airport.

Ron Larson, airport manager, worked closely with federal aviation officials to obtain the grant and was pleased to hear the good news. "These federal dollars will help pave the way to construct the new hangers needed to meet a growing demand for based aircraft."
