CONGRESSMAN DAVID WU NAMED RANKING DEMOCRAT OF THE ENVIRONMENT, TECHNOLOGY AND STANDARDS SUBCOMMITTEE OF THE HOUSE SCIENCE COMMITTEE
 
Wu Announces Forum on Tsunami Preparedness
 
Washington, D.C. -- Today Congressman David Wu announced that he has been selected as the ranking Democrat of the Environment, Technology and Standards Subcommittee of the House Science Committee.
 
"As the Ranking Member on this subcommittee, I look forward to bringing the full powers of its jurisdiction to serve the people of Oregon," said Congressman David Wu.  "The first item on my agenda is to host a public information forum on tsunami preparedness, an issue that is currently before the Science Committee.  I am also excited that this subcommittee will allow me to tackle two issues of tremendous importance to me and to Oregon -- cracking down on methamphetamine and improving math and science education in our schools."
 
The Science public information hearing will be held in Seaside, Oregon on Tuesday March 22 at a time and location to be announced.  The forum will bring together representatives from the fields of science, emergency preparedness, federal, state and local governments and the private sector.  The forum will provide the public with the opportunity to ask questions and receive the most up to date information on tsunami preparedness.
 
The Environment, Technology and Standards subcommittee has jurisdiction, oversight, and investigative authority on all matters relating to competitiveness, technology, and environmental research, development, and demonstration and biotechnology policy. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which handless all activities related to weather, weather services, climate, is included in the Subcommittee's jurisdiction.
 
"This subcommittee gives me leverage to fight for so many issues important to Oregonians today, including our ability to compete in a 21st century economy, protecting intellectual property rights in our high tech sector, and ensuring that our small businesses have access to the latest innovation research and technology transfers," commented Wu.
