TVA to constructing 5 fuel gas desulfurization systems to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions from coal-fired plants

October 5, 2001

"With the commitment of $1.5 billion to build these 'scrubbers,' TVA is clearly putting the health of Tennessee Valley residents above their bottom line. I am pleased that the desulfurization systems at Kingston and Bull Run will directly improve the air quality in East Tennessee and in the Great Smoky Mountains."

"Chairman Glenn McCullough and Director Skila Harris have once again shown excellent leadership and sound judgment. I applaud their dedication to reducing sulfur dioxide emissions, their commitment to health and the environment and their pledge to improve the quality of life for people in the TVA region."
