The Next Three Months Are Critical

October 14, 2004

We must drive back the insurgents in Iraq if the new government is to have its first free and democratic election in January.  The President has laid out the dual goals of self-rule and stability for Iraq.  Security in the region is a necessary prerequisite for the free and democratic elections.  As the 'liberator' and not the 'occupier,' the United States longs for self-rule in Iraq and knows that the terrorists will only respond to our use of force.

Three years after September 11th, we have no choice but to stay on the offensive and drive back the radicals in Iraq and Afghanistan.  The insurgents will continue to interfere with the process of democratization in Iraq, but we must remain vigilant.  Terrorism continues around the world and is only going to get worse if we are not determined and resolute.

The next three months leading up to Iraq's elections in January are critical.  We absolutely must stand our ground and persevere until we are successful in Iraq.
