"American citizens spend nearly half of what they earn each year on taxes."

June 28, 2002

"Tomorrow --June 29th -- is 'Cost of Government' day which is the day on the calendar each year that the average American worker has finally earned enough gross income to pay off his or her share of taxes and regulatory burdens imposed by all levels of government. That roughly means that taxes cost American citizens nearly half of what they earn each year."

"Last night, the House of Representatives voted to raise the federal debt ceiling and while I understand that we are in a War on Terrorism and that there are certain things we must do, I voted NO and did not support raising the debt ceiling. I think we have to hold the line on government spending to encourage more efficient government and accountability. We owe it to future generations to be more responsible with the resources we have."
