Wamp Supports SAFER Act

October 25, 2002

There is definitely an immigration problem in this country. Both legal and illegal immigrants continue to pour into the United States. I have received many complaints about the number of immigrants entering the country and the very serious problem of illegal immigration. I joined the Immigration Caucus to try to reform our nation's immigration laws and secure America?s borders.

I have also signed onto H.R. 5013, the Securing America's Future through Enforcement Reform (SAFER) Act. The SAFER Act creates much needed reform by focusing on specific areas of immigration policy. Specifically, the bill will give us more resources and new methods to:

  • Secure the border
  • Screen aliens seeking admission
  • Track aliens in the United States
  • Remove alien terrorists, criminals, and human rights violators
  • Reform legal immigration

Strengthening our immigration enforcement system is a crucial step. We must take those steps now to make sure that the events of September 11th are not repeated.
