Wamp Cosponsors Constitutional Restoration Act

May 14, 2004

Too many federal judges have decided to interpret the Constitution according to their own personal ideology.  The practice of judicial activism has threatened some of our most cherished liberties.

Recent rulings by some federal judges seek to mandate that government ban religious expressions or even deny the existence of God.  These decisions are clearly out of step with the values held by a majority of Americans and the history of the founding of our country.  When it comes to religion, the intent of the founding fathers was to avoid government dictated religion.  People of all faiths should be able to freely practice their religious beliefs in a place of worship, school, or work.  This country was founded on the principle of freedom of religion, not freedom from religion.

I have cosponsored the Constitutional Restoration Act, H.R. 3799, to prevent some radical judges from imposing their extremist views on our society.  This bill would remove jurisdiction from the Supreme Court and other district courts from hearing cases brought against a federal, state, or local official for acknowledging God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government.

We cannot sit idly by as the courts try to rewrite our heritage and traditions.  I will keep fighting to ensure that our liberties and customs are protected for future generations.
