Now, more than ever, Americans deserve to keep more of their hard earned money, including those who live and work overseas. Many Americans count on the tax-exempt status they receive while working in other countries to help provide for their families.
The goal of the tax relief package passed by Congress was to lower the tax burden that Americans have to pay, not to offset it with tax increases elsewhere. On May 23, 2003, I voted for the final version of the Jobs and Growth Tax Act, which did not include the Senate proposal to eliminate the tax-exempt status of U.S. citizens who live and work in other countries.
I will continue to work hard to make sure that more of the money you earn stays with you and is not sent to Washington, D.C. |
