The men and women serving in the United States Armed Forces deserve regular pay increases to help them keep up with the rising cost of living. Because servicemen and women, our country is safe and our freedom secure.
The Defense Authorization Act, which passed the House of Representatives with my strong support by a vote of 396 to 30, includes a base pay increase of 2.7% for 2007. This is a .5% increase over the President’s request. The bill also includes targeted pay increases for mid-grade and senior noncommissioned officers and warrant officers to make their salaries more competitive with comparable private sector jobs.
In these uncertain times, we especially need to honor and show our appreciation for those who dedicate themselves to defend our great nation. America owes them so much. |
