Wamp Disappointed by the Supreme Court's Decision on Virtual Child Pornography

May 3, 2002

We need to work aggressively against the pornography industry. I was extremely disappointed by the Supreme Court?s recent decision to strike down a federal ban on virtual child pornography that has set back years of work on behalf of the most innocent Americans.

The court's ruling was immediately criticized by many of my colleagues in the House and Senate, and by the Bush Administration. Attorney General John Ashcroft has vowed to work with Congress to devise new statutes dealing with virtual child pornography that will survive judicial scrutiny.

Pedophilia is a growing problem in America. I pledge to work with other pro-family Members of Congress to construct new legislation that might withstand the Supreme Court tests. Our children must be better protected from this perversion.

Sex and pornographic addictions are becoming a devastating reality in our society, and the Internet has no doubt contributed to this problem. I will continue to work with my colleagues in the House to do all we can to stop this industry that feeds off the destruction of families and the innocence of children.
