Wamp to appear on Court TV

May 22, 2001

Continuing his work on preventing youth violence, Congressman Zach Wamp was asked by House Speaker Dennis Hastert to participate in a national program on youth violence and how to protect our children.

On Tuesday May 22, Court TV is sponsoring an open discussion on media violence, character education, industry responsibility and other issues. Congressman Wamp will be one of the featured speakers.

"America's children need our help. We must reduce violence in our schools and we must find real solutions that get to the heart of the problem. There is no easy answer, but research shows that parental involvement and character building programs can help curb the violent trend that we are seeing among our youth," said Wamp.

In 1997, Court TV developed the "Choices and Consequences" program to help children recognize that "real" violence has a "real" consequence that is often NOT seen on television.

In the 106th Congress, Representative Wamp was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Speaker's Bipartisan Working Group on Youth Violence. He has continuously spoken out against violence in the media and was the original sponsor of legislation that helps parents identify violent content in movies, music and video games.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Catherine Crier and is scheduled to air later in the year.
