Legislation Promotes Internet Innovation

June 20, 2006

The Internet is quickly changing and Congress must allow it to develop and prosper as free from regulation as possible.  The laws governing the Internet have not been updated to the suit the current conditions since the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

Competition promotes technological innovation and better services for the consumer.  The Communications, Opportunity Promotion and Enhancement Act, which passed the House with my strong support by a vote of 321 to 121, will open the door for greater competition in the broadband market.  It will allow more companies to enter the market, spurring technological advances and lead to cost relief for consumers.

The Internet is a vital part of our economy.  We must encourage innovation and expanded service for the American public, which this bill does.
