Wamp Cosponsors the Fairness in Firearm Testing Act

April 7, 2006

There are important steps we can take to ensure the security of our citizens without trampling all over the U.S. Constitution.  Guns do not commit crimes, people do. Washington DC, where it is illegal to own a handgun, proves that we do not need more gun control, we need more crime control.  In Washington, the “bad guys” have guns and the law abiding citizens do not.  Hard data clearly shows that gun control does not work.

The Fairness in Firearm Testing Act would require the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to video record all tests it makes on firearms and make those recording available to the owners.  This legislation would protect gun owners from tampering and help them get a fair trail in the event of prosecution.  That is why I have decided to cosponsor this bill.

One of the rights specifically protected in our bill of rights, second only to the freedom of speech is that "...the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."  The Constitution is clear about this.  I will continue to support and vote for legislation that protects your right to bear arms.
