Without a doubt, our health care system is in a crisis and people are rightly demanding solutions.  The cost of medical insurance continues to rise and the struggle to pay for quality health care is becoming more difficult for everyone.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of uninsured in America has risen to over 45 million.

Current tax treatment of medical expenses does not promote competition for health insurance or health care services. This increases the cost of both.  This is why I am a cosponsor of H.R. 4625, the Health Care Freedom of Choice Act, which would allow for tax deductions for medical expenses

Giving individuals the same tax benefits their employers and third parties receive will encourage greater choice and competition among healthcare services.  This will reduce the cost of insurance for all Americans.
