International Monitors Have No Place in Our Elections
September 16, 2004
The request by several Members of Congress to the UN to monitor our elections in November was embarrassing to us as a nation.Fortunately, the United Nations turned down the request.I have consistently voted to restrict our involvement with the UN and to demand more accountability from the UN.
I am completely opposed to any international organization monitoring our elections. One of the core strengths of our great nation is the free and open election process followed by a peaceful transfer of power. We should continue in that great tradition without the interference of international monitors.
