WAMP NAMED TO KEY HOMELAND SECURITY SUBCOMMITTEE

Due to his expertise in the Appropriations process and his knowledge of homeland security technologies and solutions, Congressman Zach Wamp (R-TN) was appointed by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Bill Young (R-FL) today to the newly formed Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee.

"It is a great honor to be appointed to this most important subcommittee by Chairman Young and I am honored to serve my country in this new capacity as we continue to fight the War on Terrorism," said Wamp. "This subcommittee will have annual oversight of the new Department of Homeland Security and will provide the annual funding to ensure our freedom and better protect out borders."

 

"Zach Wamp has proven himself to be a seasoned Appropriator and to be very effective in complex areas of science and national security. He has excellent knowledge of the homeland security needs and will be a valuable Member of this important Subcommittee," said Chairman Young.

 

This new Appropriations subcommittee will be lead by Chairman Harold Rogers (R-KY). In the 106th Congress, Congressman Wamp served on the Commerce, Justice, and State Appropriations Subcommittee under the leadership of Chairman Rogers.

 

This new Homeland Security Subcommittee will have jurisdiction over the following:

Transportation Security Administration

U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Customs Service

Secret Service

Federal Protective Service

Federal Law Enforcement Training Center

Immigration and Naturalization Service

First Responder programs

National Infrastructure Protection

Animal Plant Health Inspection Service and Plum Island

National Communications System and Bio-Weapons Defense Center Various energy and nuclear programs

Metro Medical Response,

Office of Emergency Preparedness

National Stockpile

National Disaster Medical System

FEMA.

 

Congressman Wamp's other Appropriations subcommittees include serving as the Vice-Chairman of the Energy and Water Development Subcommittee and serving on the Interior Subcommittee. Wamp has been a Member of the Appropriations Committee since 1997.
