Congressman Wamp promotes faith-based leadership

April 6, 2001

In a time when society is slowly slipping away from religious values, Congressman Zach Wamp continues to promote faith-based support organizations as a way to better meet real needs in real people's lives. Wamp recently announced his selection of The Rev. Al Chapman to the first House-Senate Republican Faith-Based Leadership Summit to be held in Washington, D.C., on April 25th.

"I am thrilled to select Al Chapman as my nominee to the Summit. He has faithfully served Chattanooga through the Inner City Ministries for 14 years, and he understands the important role of churches and faith-based institutions as pillars in our community. The government can do some things well but often times faith-based groups can do a better job with difficult social problems," Rep. Wamp said.

This Summit will bring together Members of Congress with the faith-based community to explore outreach programs in the areas of youth development, education, welfare, job skills and family security. Speakers at the Summit will include House and Senate Republican leadership, representatives from the Administration and faith-based leaders from around the country.

"I am honored to be a part of such a distinguished group. This initiative is on the cutting edge of where we need to be as a nation. We must involve the faith-based agencies and churches in rebuilding our community," said Rev. Chapman.
